Job Overview
The Supply Chain Automation Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of automated systems that streamline material handling, inventory management, and production scheduling within Unilever’s Moyamba facility. Reporting to the Head of Supply Chain Operations, the engineer will collaborate with cross‑functional teams including production, IT, maintenance, and external technology partners to develop scalable solutions that enhance throughput, accuracy, and safety. Key Responsibilities
- Design and configure automated material handling equipment such as conveyors, robotic pick‑and‑place systems, and automated guided vehicles (AGVs) to support end‑to‑end supply chain processes.
- Develop integration architectures linking automation hardware with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to enable real‑time data exchange.
- Conduct feasibility studies, cost‑benefit analyses, and risk assessments for automation projects, presenting findings to senior leadership.
- Lead pilot implementations, monitor performance metrics, and refine solutions based on data‑driven insights.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to establish preventive maintenance schedules and troubleshoot automation system issues.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations throughout the automation lifecycle.
- Provide technical training and support to operators and maintenance personnel on new automated equipment.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation, including system specifications, standard operating procedures, and change‑control records.
