Job Overview

The Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to Dentons’ corporate clients operating in Sierra Leone and the wider West African market. The role involves drafting and negotiating contracts, ensuring regulatory compliance, and advising on corporate governance matters. Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including joint venture, supply, and service contracts.
  • Provide legal counsel on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and restructuring activities.
  • Conduct legal research and advise on regulatory developments affecting clients in sectors such as energy, mining, finance, and telecommunications.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with Sierra Leonean law and international standards.
  • Represent the firm in negotiations, dispute resolution, and, when necessary, litigation support.
  • Develop and maintain a repository of legal templates and best‑practice guidelines for the firm’s regional offices.
  • Assist in client onboarding, due diligence, and risk assessment processes.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in French is an advantage.
  • Proven negotiation skills and the ability to manage complex transactions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Education

The candidate must hold a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree or equivalent, be admitted to the Sierra Leone Bar, and possess a solid academic record. Additional certifications in corporate law, compliance, or international trade are desirable.

Experience

A minimum of five years of relevant experience in corporate or commercial law, preferably within a law firm or in‑house legal department serving multinational clients, is required. Experience in the West African legal environment and familiarity with local regulatory frameworks will be highly valued.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,500,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses and other incentives.
