Job Overview

The Fisheries Conservation Specialist will play a critical role in implementing fisheries conservation and management initiatives in Sierra Leone. The successful candidate will work closely with the FAO team to develop and implement sustainable fisheries management practices, promote ecosystem-based fisheries management, and support the development of fisheries policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sustainable fisheries management practices and ecosystem-based fisheries management plans
  • Conduct fisheries surveys and assessments to inform conservation and management decisions
  • Support the development of fisheries policies and regulations
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including fishermen, communities, and government agencies
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of conservation and management measures

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries, Marine Biology, Environmental Science or related field
  • 2-3 years of experience in fisheries conservation, management, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of fisheries conservation and management principles
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
