Job Overview
The Network Operations Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the optimal performance, stability, and scalability of MTN Sierra Leone’s mobile and data networks. Reporting to the Head of Network Operations, the engineer will monitor network health, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement enhancements that align with the company’s strategic objectives. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor real‑time network performance using OSS/BSS tools and proactively identify potential faults.
- Diagnose and resolve complex network incidents, coordinating with field engineers and vendors as needed.
- Implement network upgrades, configuration changes, and capacity planning to support growth targets.
- Conduct root‑cause analysis for recurring issues and develop preventive action plans.
- Collaborate with the Radio Access Network (RAN) and Core Network teams to optimize end‑to‑end service quality.
- Maintain detailed documentation of network topology, change logs, and incident reports.
- Participate in on‑call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical network events.
- Assist in the design and rollout of new technologies such as 5G, LTE‑Advanced, and IoT platforms.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of GSM, UMTS, LTE, and emerging 5G technologies.
- Proficiency with network monitoring tools (e.g., NetAct, OSS, NMS).
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑team collaboration.
- Experience with network performance metrics and KPI analysis.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automation tasks.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CCNA, JNCIP, or equivalent are advantageous and demonstrate a commitment to technical excellence.
Experience
Applicants should have a minimum of three to five years of hands‑on experience in telecom network operations, preferably within a mobile carrier environment. Experience with network optimization projects, large‑scale deployments, and vendor management will be highly valued.
Salary
