Job Overview

The Health and Safety Officer will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the well‑being of all employees, contractors, and visitors at Sierra Rutile’s mining operations in Kailahun. Reporting to the Senior Health, Safety, and Environment Manager, the incumbent will develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive safety policies, conduct risk assessments, and lead incident investigations. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and enforce health and safety policies, procedures, and emergency response plans specific to mining operations.
• Conduct regular site inspections, hazard identification, and risk assessments to mitigate potential incidents.
• Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
• Provide safety training and orientation for new hires, contractors, and existing staff.
• Monitor compliance with Sierra Leonean occupational health and safety legislation and international standards such as ISO 45001.
• Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and documentation for internal and external audits.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and environmental teams to integrate safety considerations into project planning.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement through safety campaigns, toolbox talks, and employee engagement.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of mining‑related health and safety regulations and best practices.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities for risk assessment and incident investigation.
• Effective communication skills for delivering training and safety briefings.
• Proficiency in using safety management software and Microsoft Office suite.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent are highly desirable and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development.

Experience

Applicants must possess 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in health and safety roles within the mining industry or a similarly high‑risk environment. Experience in conducting safety audits, managing emergency response, and leading training programs is essential.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary ranging from SSP 2,000,000 to SSP 3,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be offered.
