Job Title
Mentor (Digital Media & Training)
Location: Freetown
Job Type: Contract (18 Months, with possible extension)
Reports To: Projects Manager
Project Overview
This role supports the EU-funded DIS NA WI VOICE Project, which aims to establish media hubs in universities. These hubs will empower youth through digital storytelling, citizen journalism, and civic participation initiatives.
Job Purpose
The Mentor will support training delivery, digital media development, and youth engagement activities within university-based media hubs. The role focuses on building capacity in digital content creation, media literacy, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver training on digital media production, content creation, and storytelling tools
- Support development of training materials aligned with donor requirements
- Facilitate learning sessions, workshops, and collaborative media spaces
- Provide on-site mentoring and technical support to hub facilitators
- Guide participants in content development, program production, and digital storytelling
- Encourage youth participation, civic engagement, and citizen journalism
- Ensure all activities comply with organizational safeguarding policies
- Promote a safe environment for children, youth, and vulnerable groups
- Communicate effectively using varied teaching and engagement strategies
- Influence and motivate participants through strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of digital media, content creation, and communication tools
- Experience in training, facilitation, and mentoring youth or community groups
- Excellent presentation, storytelling, and public speaking skills
- Ability to work in team-based and multicultural environments
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and influencing skills
- Understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and ethical media practices
Qualifications & Experience
- Background in:
- Media Studies
- Communication
- Journalism
- Or related field
- Experience in digital media training, youth programs, or community engagement
- Knowledge of media development and civic engagement initiatives
- Familiarity with NGO or donor-funded projects is an advantage
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Mandatory adherence to BBC Media Action safeguarding policies
- Background checks (including police verification) required
- Zero tolerance for abuse, exploitation, and misconduct
