Job Overview

The Solar Project Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and commissioning of solar power projects throughout Sierra Leone. Key Responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end solar project development, from feasibility studies to final handover.
• Conduct site assessments, resource analysis, and technical due diligence.
• Prepare detailed engineering designs, single‑line diagrams, and layout plans.
• Coordinate procurement of solar modules, inverters, mounting structures, and balance‑of‑system components.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Supervise installation teams, ensuring compliance with safety standards and local regulations.
• Perform system testing, performance verification, and commissioning documentation.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to secure permits, grid interconnection agreements, and financing arrangements.
• Provide technical support during operation and maintenance phases.
• Contribute to the development of Schneider Electric’s renewable energy roadmap in Sierra Leone.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of photovoltaic (PV) system design, grid integration, and energy storage.
• Proficiency with design software such as PVSyst, AutoCAD, and PV*SOL.
• Excellent project management abilities, including scheduling tools like MS Project or Primavera.
• Effective communication skills for stakeholder engagement and report preparation.
• Problem‑solving mindset with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
• Understanding of local electrical codes, environmental regulations, and permitting processes.
• Leadership qualities to guide multidisciplinary teams.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Krio is an advantage.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates with a Master’s degree or professional certifications such as NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) will be given preference.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in solar PV project engineering, including at least two years in a senior or lead role. Demonstrated experience in managing projects of 1 MW to 10 MW capacity in West Africa or similar emerging markets is essential.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 1,500,000 to SSP 2,500,000 annually, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and performance. Salary is paid monthly and reviewed annually.
