Job Overview

The Network Optimization Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and fine‑tuning network solutions that enhance coverage, capacity, and quality of service across Africell’s Kenema operations. Working closely with the Radio Access Network (RAN) team, the engineer will analyze performance data, identify bottlenecks, and propose optimization strategies that meet both technical standards and business objectives. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive drive‑test and network performance analyses to identify coverage gaps and capacity constraints.
• Develop and implement optimization plans for LTE and upcoming 5G deployments, focusing on throughput, latency, and handover efficiency.
• Collaborate with the RAN, Core, and IT teams to integrate optimization solutions into the operational workflow.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and generate regular reports for senior management.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and field technicians.
• Participate in network planning meetings and contribute to the design of new sites and upgrades.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in network performance tools such as TEMS, Nemo, or similar.
• In‑depth knowledge of LTE, 5G NR, and radio frequency principles.
• Experience with network planning and optimization software (e.g., Atoll, Planet).
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Cisco CCNP, Nokia NRS, or equivalent are advantageous.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in network optimization, preferably within a mobile telecom environment. Experience with both 4G LTE and emerging 5G technologies is highly desirable.
