Job Overview

The Network Operations Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining MTN’s radio access network (RAN) and core infrastructure in the Eastern Province. Reporting to the Head of Network Operations, the incumbent will ensure optimal network performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to roll out new services. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, configure, and optimize LTE and 5G radio sites to meet coverage and capacity targets.
  • Monitor network performance using OSS tools, analyze KPIs, and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead fault diagnosis and resolution for complex network incidents, ensuring minimal service disruption.
  • Collaborate with the RF planning team to design site layouts and antenna configurations.
  • Coordinate with vendors for equipment provisioning, testing, and integration.
  • Document network changes, maintain accurate inventory records, and produce performance reports.
  • Support the rollout of new services such as VoLTE, IoT platforms, and mobile financial solutions.
  • Participate in on‑site surveys and drive site acquisition activities in Kailahun and surrounding districts.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of LTE, 5G NR, and core network protocols.
  • Proficiency with network monitoring tools (e.g., NetAct, OSS, NMS).
  • Hands‑on experience with RF engineering concepts and site optimization.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and analytical thinking.
  • Effective communication skills for cross‑team collaboration.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and safety procedures in Sierra Leone.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Nokia NRS, or Huawei certifications are advantageous.

Experience

Applicants must have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in network operations, preferably within a mobile operator environment. Experience with network optimization projects and field deployments in emerging markets is highly valued.

Salary

The role offers a competitive salary ranging from 2,500,000 to 4,500,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with performance‑based incentives.
