Job Overview

The Curriculum Development Specialist will lead the design, adaptation and implementation of educational programmes for primary and secondary schools across the Eastern Province. Reporting to the Learning and Development Manager, you will work closely with teachers, subject‑matter experts and community stakeholders to create culturally relevant, competency‑based curricula that align with national standards and the British Council’s quality framework. You will also be responsible for piloting new learning materials, evaluating their effectiveness, and providing continuous support to educators through workshops and mentorship. This position plays a critical role in advancing the British Council’s vision of equitable access to quality education and will directly contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4 in Sierra Leone. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive needs assessments with schools and local education authorities to identify curriculum gaps.
• Design and develop curriculum frameworks, lesson plans and assessment tools for core subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science.
• Adapt existing international curricula to reflect local languages, cultures and socio‑economic realities.
• Facilitate training workshops for teachers, providing guidance on pedagogical best practices and curriculum implementation.
• Monitor and evaluate pilot programmes, collecting data to inform continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with the British Council’s research team to produce evidence‑based reports and case studies.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of national education policies, international standards and emerging educational technologies.

Required Skills

• Strong expertise in curriculum design, instructional design and assessment methodologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in local languages is an advantage.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including teachers, NGOs and government officials.
• Project management experience, with a track record of delivering results on time and within budget.
• Analytical mindset for data‑driven decision making and impact evaluation.
• Proficiency with digital learning platforms and educational software.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum Studies, Instructional Design or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certification (e.g., PGCE, TESOL) is highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.

Experience

Applicants should have a minimum of three to five years of hands‑on experience in curriculum development, preferably within a multicultural or international context. Experience working in West Africa or with NGOs focused on education will be viewed favorably.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes statutory benefits and performance‑based incentives.
