Job Overview

The Maritime Shipping Compliance Analyst will play a pivotal role in ensuring that all shipping activities originating from or transiting through Sierra Leone adhere to international regulations, local laws, and Maersk’s internal standards. This position involves close collaboration with port authorities, customs officials, and internal stakeholders to conduct risk assessments, audit documentation, and implement corrective actions. The analyst will also contribute to the development of compliance strategies that align with Maersk’s sustainability goals and support the growth of trade in the region. Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and evaluate shipping operations for compliance with IMO conventions, SOLAS, MARPOL, and local Sierra Leone maritime regulations.
• Conduct regular audits of vessel documentation, crew certifications, and cargo manifests to identify gaps and recommend corrective measures.
• Collaborate with port authorities in Mabonto and neighboring ports to facilitate smooth customs clearance and ensure adherence to import/export controls.
• Prepare detailed compliance reports, risk assessments, and dashboards for senior management and regulatory bodies.
• Develop and deliver training modules on maritime law, safety standards, and environmental regulations for internal teams and partner agencies.
• Assist in the investigation of incidents, non‑conformities, and customer complaints, providing root‑cause analysis and remediation plans.
• Stay updated on evolving maritime legislation, industry best practices, and emerging technologies that impact compliance.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of international maritime regulations and local Sierra Leone shipping laws.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a detail‑oriented mindset.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in compliance management software and data visualization tools.
• Ability to work independently and as part of cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced environment.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Law, International Trade, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Maritime Compliance Professional (CMCP) or equivalent are highly desirable.

Applicants should possess 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in maritime compliance, logistics, or a related field, preferably within a multinational shipping or logistics organization. Experience working with West African port authorities and familiarity with the regulatory landscape in Sierra Leone will be considered a strong asset.

Salary
