Job Overview

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS policies, procedures, and programs within SLWSA. This role ensures compliance with national regulations, international standards, and best practices to safeguard employee health, protect the environment, and maintain operational integrity of water and sanitation facilities. The manager will act as a strategic partner to senior leadership, providing risk assessments, incident investigations, and training initiatives that foster a culture of safety and environmental stewardship. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and update EHS policies, ensuring alignment with Sierra Leone legislation and international standards such as ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
• Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for all water treatment plants, distribution networks, and sanitation projects.
• Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation to prevent recurrence.
• Coordinate and deliver regular EHS training programs for field staff, engineers, and administrative personnel.
• Monitor environmental performance indicators, prepare reports, and present findings to senior management and stakeholders.
• Manage waste handling, hazardous material storage, and disposal processes in compliance with environmental regulations.
• Collaborate with procurement to ensure that contractors and suppliers meet EHS requirements.
• Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns, safety drills, and employee engagement activities.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, water quality standards, and occupational health and safety legislation in Sierra Leone.
• Proven experience in risk assessment, incident investigation, and corrective action planning.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for training and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to interpret technical data, generate insightful reports, and present recommendations to senior leadership.
• Leadership capability to influence cross‑functional teams and drive continuous improvement.
• Proficiency in EHS management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Commitment to sustainability and community health outcomes.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or NEBOSH International General Certificate are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in environmental health and safety management, preferably within the water, utilities, or infrastructure sector. Experience working with government agencies or international development partners is an advantage.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 3,500,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based incentives and allowances may be provided.
