Job Overview

The Energy Storage Systems Engineer will design, develop, and integrate large‑scale battery storage solutions for utility‑scale and commercial applications. Working closely with project managers, grid engineers, and local partners, you will lead technical assessments, system sizing, and performance optimization to ensure reliable, cost‑effective storage that supports renewable generation and grid balancing. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering design of lithium‑ion and flow battery storage systems, including electrical schematics, thermal management, and safety analysis.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, site assessments, and grid impact analyses to determine optimal storage configurations.
  • Collaborate with procurement and construction teams to ensure timely delivery of components and adherence to project schedules.
  • Develop detailed technical specifications, testing protocols, and commissioning procedures for storage installations.
  • Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and performance validation phases.
  • Monitor system performance post‑commissioning, analyze data, and recommend upgrades or operational improvements.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, cost‑benefit analyses, and documentation for regulatory compliance.
  • Stay abreast of emerging storage technologies, standards, and best practices to drive continuous innovation.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of battery chemistries, power electronics, and energy management systems.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PSS®E, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Experience with IEC 62619, UL 9540, and other safety standards for energy storage.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and analytical thinking.
  • Effective communication skills for interfacing with clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Project management experience, including budgeting and timeline coordination.
  • Ability to work in challenging field environments and adapt to evolving project requirements.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in energy storage, such as the Certified Energy Storage Professional (CESP) designation, are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience designing, installing, or managing utility‑scale energy storage projects. Prior experience in emerging markets or African energy sectors is a strong advantage.
